Emaar partners with CleanMax

Emaar partners with CleanMax to go green energy
solution across their 5 malls in Dubai

Emaar Malls has associated with CleanMax to build and operate large-scale rooftop solar plants to power their 5 malls in Dubai. Under this partnership with Emaar, CleanMax, will set up rooftop solar plants with a cumulative capacity of 7 MWp. The solar plants will cover much of the rooftop and car parking areas of these malls, and the first of these was commissioned in September 2020 at the Springs Souk of capacity 921 kWp.

In this case study we will discuss in detail about the solar plant commissioned at Emaar Mall in Springs Souk.

Quick Facts

Location

Springs Souk, Dubai

Capacity

921 kW

Type Of System

Spread across RCC roofs and Carpark

Solar electricity generated

1,472,000 kWh/year

Carbon dioxide emissions abated

648 tons annually

During construction of the solar plant, there were a number of operational and safety issues faced.

  • Varying height of several utility equipment on different parts of the roof.
  • Execution of project in a working mall in a community area with different roofs and timing constraints.
  • No storage place in working mall.

The CleanMax team resolved these issues by:

  • Adding custom engineered columns and purlins (structures) for different parts of the roof were fabricated and installed to place modules over the utility equipment.
  • Meticulous planning and involvement of multiple interdependent teams (structure, civil) were done for scheduling and smooth execution of various components of completion of project.
  • Without any storage place in the working mall, the timing and planning of piecewise supply chain, procurement and execution was done to overcome this challenge.

In this project, maximum number of modules were installed by way of customised and detailed design and engineering for the elevated structures making this one-of-a-kind project in Dubai.

The solar power project is expected to abate 648 tons of CO2 per annum, which equals abating greenhouse gas emission from more than 137 passenger cars driven for an entire year or equivalent to planting 7862 palm trees.
